Resveratrol is a polyphenolic phytoalexin easily found in red grapes and berries. It has shown overall health-promoting effects such as anti-angiogenic, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

In skin application, it was found to improve skin function and appearance as an antioxidant in anti-aging skin care products. The reason behind skin aging is known to be due to the increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that causes oxidation and disrupt cell function and the formation of collagen which in results leads to wrinkles formation.

Resveratrol can repair accumulated damage and prevent skin from damaging in the future by neutralising free radicals and improving the production of naturally occurring antioxidants in skin cells. As a potent antioxidant, it has its challenges when put into the formulation for skin care products.

In common formulation, Resveratrol is photosensitive and can quickly switch to a biological inactive state. When exposed to other compounds or oxidation, it can be easily degradable. Hence, DDS-resveratrol is found to address the decrease of resveratrol efficacy when added to the formulation.

DDS-Resveratrol encapsulates 3% of resveratrol with liposomes to prevent the degradation of the molecule and to ensure that the potent antioxidant is delivered to the deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production and prevents premature skin aging.
